Comedian in New York City

What People Are Saying About Adam Sank:

"One of the city’s most celebrated gay comedy kings."

Edge New York

"The handsomest, hardest working man in the comedy biz."

 HX Magazine

"The side-splittingly funny and staggeringly handsome (he bellyaches immediately if we don’t say that) Adam Sank is back."

Gay City News

"Wonderfully funny... It was undoubtedly clear that Sank's comedic timing and delivery had everyone laughing."

Queens Tribune

"San Diego just got funnier."

 San Diego Performer Magazine

"Between the two comedians, the $5 Manhattans and some airman in the back who was unwittingly offering himself up as fodder for Sank, the crowd was experiencing full-on fits of laughter. In fact, one audience member completely lost control as his chair slipped from beneath him and he hit the floor. Hard."

Exit Zero Magazine (Cape May, NJ)

"Most gay comics latch on to their sexual preference as a way to stand out (pun intended) from the crowd. But far too many dont go beyond the obvious stereotypes. Sank does, and he seems to prefer comics with unique voices."

Chelsea Now (NYC)

"Adam Sank is the nicest, funniest, brightest, young man I know. Having him perform at my club, Danny's Upstairs on the East Coast, was the highlight of our season. Born to be a star -- and will be. Get back soon, Adam.  I miss you!"

Danny Aiello, Academy Award-Nominated Actor

"Adam is really a rare find -- an incredibly funny, current and smart comic.  His humor speaks to a wide and varied demographic as he has a true gift for connecting with his audience. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a pleasure to work with… and look at."

John Meyers, Former General Manager, Comix

"Who is this guy, and where did he come from? Adam Sank is funny, refreshing and very real. Mark your calendar when he comes through your town."

Doc, MikDago Productions

"Adam Sank really is a trailblazer and should be very proud of the path he has created, and the opportunity he has opened up for other gay comedians."

Jason Scarlatti, Creative Director, 2(x)ist

"Handsome and witty Adam Sank runs one of the best comedy shows in New York. He's always a pleasure to work with, but I do wish he'd take my advice and get a boyfriend named Steve. It would be perfect for his act."

Bob Smith, First Openly Gay Comic to Appear on "The Tonight Show"

"Have Adam Sank back. It was professionally impressive that he stayed and got naked, too."

Member Survey, 2010 GNI Retreat

"Even though we are frequently the source -- if not the butt -- of our son's humor, we love him and his comedy. But how about some new material?"

Phyllis Sank, Adam's Mother

Adam Sank Facebook Friendship Listed For Sale On eBay For $45

Adam Sank Facebook Friend

Can you put a price on friendship? How about a Facebook friendship -- with a celebrity?

According to the open market of eBay, the correct answer--at least for a Facebook friendship with Adam Sank--is "yes," and less than $45.

An eBay user by the name of robert53572 recently put a Facebook friendship with Sank, a New York-based comedian, up for sale on the auction site. The move comes after Sank maxed out his allocation of "friends" on the social network, which caps the number at 5,000 due to "back-end technology".

The item was listed at a mere $45 and failed to receive any bids by the time the auction closed earlier this week. The friendship was listed under "Entertainment Memorabilia" with the follwing description:

Famed Comedian Adam Sank just reached 5,000 f***book friends, and can no longer accept requests (as an individual). I am offering my position in his list of friends to the highest bidder. Why just be a fan page subscriber, when you can interact PERSONALLY with Adam Sank??

Comedian Adam Sank Isn’t Afraid To Show Some Skin For A Laugh

We’ve  got a thing for guys that can make us laugh. (Who doesn’t?) And if they’re cute, to boot—even better!  So when we got to Skype with the hilarious comedian Adam Sank earlier this week, we were treated to many laughs and a very nice view—including an impromptu butt shot. (Winning!)

It’s a cliche, but Sank is one of the hardest working guys in comedy today: He’s performed at all the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and New York, and not too long ago, was featured on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He’s played out on Fire Island, up in the Poconos and even over in Rehoboth, Delaware.

One of his hairiest gigs, though, was when he performed bare-ass naked at the Gay Naturists International retreat: “It was never my intent to be naked in public,” Sank explains, “I just don’t have the penis for it… It’s a grower, but it doesn’t grow enough.”

But, they group kept asking and Sank, an inveterate people-pleaser relented: “I’m very much a bottom in that sense—I want to do whatever they want me to. So I did a striptease/comedy show. Whenever I got a good laugh, I removed a piece of clothing. At the end, I just had a sock on my dick.”

The crowd of 800 naked men from around the world seemed to love it, because they keep inviting him back. And now Sank is doing similar shows in New York and Fire Island, too. Naked comedy? Works for us.

Listen to the latest episode of the Swish Edition for more of Sank’s exploits (clothed and otherwise)—including why he prefers straight-chick audiences to a room full of gay guys—and more.

Adam’s segment starts at the 33:05 point in the episode.

Worst Reason I Ever Broke Up With Someone…

Comedian Adam Sank (& BFFs) get naked for laughs

by Tony Phillips
EDGE Contributor
Saturday Jan 14, 2012
Adam Sank
Adam Sank

Comedian Adam Sank’s plush white towel hits the black stage slightly before he intends it to and he’s suddenly plunged headlong in that nightmare we all had in high school: standing naked in front of a crowded classroom full of our peers. But in this case, Sank is not en face de homeroom, but rather center stage at Daniel Nardicio’s Playgirl Mansion for the latest debauch on Manhattan’s PG-13 nightlife landscape.

The party is called Dirty Laundry, but there isn’t much laundry--dirty or otherwise--on the line. Instead, a series of gay male stand-up comics take the stage, fairly limited sartorially as their towels must also drop somewhere at the top of their act so they can also perform nude. Stage gear is pretty much limited to athletic or dress socks: a two-tone pair from Nasty Pig is as avant-garde as the wardrobe department can get.

"That wasn’t supposed to happen yet," Sank laughs, looking down at his towel atop the two-foot high stage. But he gives his unit a quick fluff, does a 360 degree rotation to rousing applause from the packed house and launches into his act Within the first 30 seconds of his material, Sank reveals his preferred sexual role, as, indeed, all the comics do at the top of their act. Queer sexual politics hasn’t been this transparent since the gay hanky code.

Adam Sank and Company Strip Down—and Get Hard?—at Daniel Nardicio’s Night of Naked Comedy, Dirty Laundry

November 21, 2011

(Brad Loekle, Daniel Nardicio, Adam Sank at 30 Lexington Avenue)

The expression "comedy ain't pretty" was turned on its ear Friday night as four gay comedians stripped down for a no-holds-barred show of raunchy standup comedy, Dirty Laundry at 30 Lexington Avenue. And, well, it was kinda hot.

The idea was hatched by downtown nightlife impresario Daniel Nardicio and out comedian Adam Sank who put together this unique show at the “Playgirl Mansion,” the private Gramercy duplex Nardicio has been working out of for the past few months.

Sank, who is a friend of Nardicio's, asked him why he never asked him to do any of his events. "I do naked," replied Nardicio to which Sank said, surprisingly, "I'd do naked." So the two rounded up three similarly immodest funnymen and the next thing they knew Sank was walking into a packed room full of strangers with nothing but a microphone and a smile.

"This is actually happening," said Sank, as he took the makeshift stage and whipped off his towel. "God, this is so fucked up, Daniel!"

After they got in the requisite jokes about it being a bit cold in the room, the comics were asked to relate some of their dirtiest stories. Well, things got filthy fast as Sank led off with a story of a South Beach hookup from hell which had the crowd laughing in sympathetic recognition. (Some jokes were even too dirty to repeat here!)

Next up was Jason Barker who related the tale of his mom interrupting his first sexual encounter to ask if she could erase the VHS he'd used for taping episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer before riffing about everyone's favorite iPhone app, Grindr. "I mean they're all on drugs right?" he said as the room cracked up. "It's Grindr because they're grinding their teeth."

Chad Stringfellow gave us a lively discussion about manscaping before literally pulled some notes out of his ass—because he had no where else to keep them. "It's crazy when you have a big ass like this," he said.  "You can loose things like your keys."

The final comedian to take the stage was Brad Loekle. The bald, bearish comedian told us about his teenage sexual conquests, of which there were apparently a few. "Back when I was 13, I had hair and hope," he explained.

Afterwards, we mingled with the crowd , noticing that one of the comedians was rather, er, excitedpost-show and none too shy about showing off his other talents. Overall the crowd seemed to enjoy the concept and Nardicio has plans for another edition on December 16. We're hard just thinking about it.

Bait and Swish comedy returns to Cape May

TwitterFacebook Adam Sank in sunglassesInterview with the host Adam Sank.

Comic Adam Sank returns to Cape May on April 2. He will host Bait & Swish: Another Dip with some of the brightest comics on the national scene. Sank recently spoke to Out In Jersey about his Jersey fans, the perfect man and being nude on stage... among other things.

Tommy: Tell me about coming back to Cape May in April for Bait & Swish: Another Dip.

Adam: I'm thrilled! This is the third time I've hosted it, and it's an honor to be asked back a third time. It really makes me feel like part of the community down there. I'm psyched.

You do have quite a following down here in South Jersey, you know.

Adam: I can tell from facebook.

Adam Sank
Adam Sank "from behind" at GNI comedy show

There are a lot of people in the South Jersey and Philly area who only know me from Cape May.

You just performed the second time at the Elks Lodge in Summit New Jersey too.

Adam: Both my brothers-in-law belong to the Elks. In Summit, the Elks Lodge is the one of the only places to go if you want to drink. Last spring, my brother-in-law came up with the idea of doing a comedy show fundraiser for the Elks. We really had no idea how it would go over. Summit is an overwhelmingly straight Republican-leaning town,  and as far as I know there is not an openly gay Elk member - at least in Summit. But the show was sold-out. There was such an intense reaction,  so we decided to do it again.

Why It’s Hard Out There For Gay Comics

When I first did stand-up at a gay show, I felt like they hated me since my jokes got little reaction. I talked about this with my then-therapist. He asked what I wore onstage, and I told him jeans and a tight T-shirt. He suggested I wear baggy clothes because maybe the crowd saw me sexually without listening to me. I was dubious, but wore a baggy button-down shirt for my next gay performance. Surprisingly, the audience connected much more with my jokes, and I realized that gay men separate their sex and comedy.

—Adam Sank, the NYC-based comedian, on why gay male audiences, which are “visual” creatures, might not take a liking to gay comics
